84-year-old dies after being hit by motorcycle in Trinidad

An 84-year old man died after he was accidentally rammed by a motorcycle while crossing a road in Trinidad town on Thursday night.

The fatality, identified as Dominador Banquila was the third road mishap victim of the night as the Loboc police chief was injured after his motorcycle was allegedly sideswiped by an AUV in Loay and a 48-year-old man was fatally ran over by a still unidentified four-wheel vehicle in Garcia Hernandez.  

According to Master Sgt. Jerefer Cajes of the Trinidad Police Station, the driver of the ill-fated motorcycle did not notice Banquila who suddenly crossed the provincial road in Barangay Kinan-oan in Trinidad.

The driver, identified as Abraham Avenido, 35, was not able to steer away from Banquila in time causing him to hit the 84-year-old at around 7:30 p.m.

The victim was rushed to the Garcia Memorial Provincial Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Avenido who sustained minor injuries meanwhile surrendered to police.

He was placed under Trinidad police custody pending the decision of the victim’s family to either file charges against him or accept a settlement.

In Garcia Hernandez, at about the same time on Thursday, Eusebio Gallendez, died after his motorcycle crashed and a trailing vehicle ran over him.

Authorities are still continuing their investigation to identify and locate the hit-and-run driver. (ad)
