A male farmer previously convicted of a robbery charge was shot dead by a still unidentified motorcycle-riding gunman in Buenavista at 8 a.m. on Wednesday.

Authorities identified the victim as Ernesto Taghoy, 57, a resident of Barangay Cambus-oc, Buenavista who police tagged as an alleged gun-for-hire and a member of the Akyat Bahay gang.

Based on initial police investigation, Taghoy was walking along a barangay road in the said village when men who rode in tandem suddenly dashed towards him.

The motorcycle passenger then reportedly shot at Taghoy multiple times hitting him in various parts of his body causing his instantaneous death.

According to witnesses, they were unable to see the faces of the suspects as they were both wearing helmets and were clad in black jackets.

The assailants also immediately fled the scene right after the shooting Taghoy, they told police.

Meanwhile, authorities found six spent shells from a .45 caliber pistol.

According to SPO1 Alejandro Estorgio, the victim was likely gunned down as retaliation for previous conflicts and past alleged illegal activities.

Taghoy was convicted in 2002 for robbery and was released from prison in 2010.

After serving time, he then allegedly started involvement in illegal drug activities. (Allen Doydora)
