OFW nabbed for drugs in Calape

A 40-year-old overseas Filipino worker who is in Bohol for a vacation was arrested for sale of illegal drugs during a police anti-drug operation.

Edgar Medrina, a native of Barangay Santa Cruz, Calape who was working as cook at a hotel in Qatar was allegedly caught in the act of selling shabu during a sting operation carried out by police officers of the Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB) on Tuesday.

In a report, police said that Medrina was immediately collared after he sold shabu worth P500 to a police poseur-buyer.

He was allegedly caught in possession of shabu which weighed 10.22 grams. The seized drugs were estimated to be worth P69,497 based on the value set by the Dangerous Drugs Board.

According to Captain Gereon Item of the PIB, they monitored Medrina for over a week before he was apprehended through the staged drug transaction.

He was reportedly sourcing his drug supply from a big-time drug dealer who remains at large after escaping from National Bureau of Investigation agents during an anti-drug operation.

Medrina is now under police custody and is set to be charged with violations against Section 5 and Section 11 of Republic Act 9165, otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
