A man ranked 10th in the Calape watch list of drug personalities was gunned down by police operatives in a buy-bust operation along the national road in Brgy. Abucayan of said town.

Calape police and members of the Provincial Public Safety Company-Special Weapons and Tactics conducted the operation against 30-year-old Angelito Campaña, a resident of said village, at 2:40 a.m. Wednesday.

According to Senior Insp. Cresente Gurrea, chief of the Calape police, Campaña fired his gun at a police poseur-buyer after noticing that he was subjected to a sting operation.

Campaña missed his target while the operatives who were on standby around the operation area fired back and hit the suspect.

Police said that Campaña was rushed to the Mother and Child Hospital in Calape but was declared dead on arrival by attending physician Dr. Brandon Bon.

Recovered from the suspect were six packs of suspected shabu, a P-500 marked money used in the buy-bust, a motorcycle, cellphone and a .38 caliber snub nose revolver.

Gurrea said that the suspect who is a former fisherman surrendered under Oplan Tokhang. (Rey Tutas)
