Priests get new posts after 6 yrs; Medroso bares 2015 priorities

Bishop MedrosoAfter six years, no single priest in the Diocese of Tagbilaran will remain in his post after a major reshuffling was announced during a clergy meeting last Monday.

Bishop Leonardo Medroso who on record has retired as bishop is the new parish priest of the St. Joseph Cathedral while awaiting his replacement as head of the Diocese.

Msgr. Jeffrey Malanog, remains as vicar general but ended his term as St. Joseph Cathedral’s parish priest, and now to assume as assistant resident of the Barangay sang Birhen Parish in Cogon, the biggest district in the city.

Bishop Medroso told The Chronicle that the new assignments which will take effect in June 1 is also part of the much needed preparation for the celebration of the Diamond Jubilee of the Diocese of Tagbilaran in November next year. The yearlong preparation will commence in November this year.

He likewise stressed that the continuing implementation of the Basic Ecclesiastical Commission (BEC) will embark on a more crucial level which is on social responsibility embarking on livelihood programs and the on-going housing projects and the planned construction of a drug rehabilitation center.

The gigantic task for the church rebuilding is another concern of the clergy after several churches were damaged during the magnitude 7.2 earthquake which rocked the province in 2013, the bishop said.
The diocese is now working on both the churches declared as “cultural heritage” by the National Historical Institute (NHI) and those not listed as part of NHI’s concern. He announced major work to start at Calrin Church as well as in the damaged churches in Sandingan Loon and in San isidro town, which will be funded by the Bishops Conference of the United States.

For now, the bishop expects every parish priest to complete his report and inventory of existing repair works before they will assume to their new assignments.
