inyong alagadThe sustaining popularity and credibility of dyRD’s “Inyong Alagad” public affairs radio program was again tested yesterday when it raised P33,000 plus for a two-year old son of a lowly couple in Jagna who was recommended by doctors to have an MRI due to meningocele congenital defect. And the program raised it within 45 minutes.

Listeners of the radio program showed their kind heartedness after they delivered their individual donations to the radio station’s  studio while anchormen Chito Visarra and Fred Araneta were interviewing the mother, 20-year old Maria Aileen who shed tears of joy of the unprecedented turn out of cash donations which reached P33,250.00.

What was touching during the program was hearing the tiny voice of the two-year old John Lenrey Henson say “salamat” (thank you) following his mother’s words of thanks to the generous donors. The donations vary from P100 to P5,000, which means that this trait of being generous among Boholanos is irregardless of social strata in the community. And what was noticeable was that most of the donors wanted to be “anonymous” in the airlanes.

Due to the illness, the head of the two-year old boy became so huge than the original size of kid’s head. And John cries whenever his head hits almost any object whether sleeping or wide awake. Doctors at the government owned Jagna District Hospital advised the parents to bring their son to Cebu to have an MRI as the guide on what should be the next medical procedure to be done.

The mother is jobless while the father is currently working as construction worker in Manila.

Among the donors were JJ and Baba  (P5,000), former Panglao Mayor Dodong Alcala (P2,000), Gemma delas Eras (P1,000), Isabel Buena (P1,000), Melyn  of Panglao (P1,000), Poting and Esing Dante (P500), William Sy (P500), Alfarero Gabriel (P500) Leanith and Rio (P500), Kagawad Emil of San Isidro (P500) Artemio Manigque (P500), Champion Shop (P200) and Bohol Football Association (P300). The rest of the donors preferred to be listed as anonymous.

As of 12noon yesterday, the fund drive raised P33,250. After it was posted in Facebook yesterday afternoon, more donors pledged to held the child.

Interested donors are still welcome to give their donation through the radio program. The parents are scheduled to go to Cebu later this week.
