For the third time in a row, Gov. Edgar Chatto on Monday received the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG), the highest Department of Interior and Local Government award accorded to a local government unit, in recognition of Bohol capitol’s integrity and competence.
Presidential Political Adviser Francis Tolentino and DILG officer-in-charge Usec. Catalino Cuy presented to the governor the award during the honoring rites at the Manila Hotel.
Chatto was accompanied by Acting Vice Gov. Venzencio Arcamo and DILG Prov’l. Dir. Loisella Lucino.
This is Bohol provincial government’s third SGLG in three consecutive years–a “hall of fame” feat–following the rigorous screening, evaluation, and validation process conducted by the DILG national and regional teams.
The awarding was witnessed by DILG Usec. Austere Panadero, Usec. Eduardo Año, Reg’l. Dir. Rene Burdeos and Asst. Reg’L. Dir. Elias Fernandez.
Mayor John Geesnell Yap II also received the first-ever SGLG for Tagbilaran City.
The other LGU awardees from Bohol this year included the municipalities of Tubigon represented by Mayor William Jao; Bien Unido, Mayor Rene Borinaga; Alicia, Mayor Marnilou Ayuban; and Duero, Mayor Conrada Amparo.
They received big glass plaques, plus cash incentives for projects which will yet be released.
The SGLG criteria for selection involve financial housekeeping; disaster preparedness; social protection; business friendliness and competitiveness; environmental protection; and law and order, and public safety.
In October this year, no less than Pres. Rodrigo Duterte and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) conferred Bohol the “Most Business-Friendly Province” Award.
Bohol outranked and bested 13 other finalists out of the country’s 81 provinces, according to the PCCI Board.
The province under Chatto has been a consistent recipient of awards and recognitions since his administration in 2010.
Bohol has been ranked number one among the best-governed provinces in the Philippines.
The province received, among others, from the different agencies and institutions the Seal of Good Financial Housekeeping, Galing Pook Award, and Gawad Pamana ng Lahi.
The DILG also cited Chatto among the top best-performing provincial governors in the country.
Chatto is the national secretary-general of the influential League of Provinces of the Philippines (LPP), which is the lead local government organization in the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP).
He was himself credited for having given ULAP its name while he was national president of the League of Vice Governors of the Philippines (LVGP) and National Movement of Young Legislators (NMYL). (Ven rebo Arigo)
