CVIRAA opens today; Duterte’s spokesperson to attend as keynote speaker

Bohol Schools Superintendent Wilfreda Bonglos welcomes officials, coaches, trainers and technical working committee representatives to a “solidarity” meeting for the 2018 Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association meet.

Almost 12,000 athletes, coaches and chaperons of various delegations from the region are here to compete during the six-day 2018 Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVRAA) Meet which will formally open at the Carlos P. Garcia Sports Complex at 5:30 this afternoon.

Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque will be the keynote speaker during the opening ceremonies.

Gov. Edgar Chatto and City Mayor Baba Yap will welcome the delegates to the regional sports meet which banners the theme “A Means Gearing Towards Peace and Unity.”

A Holy Mass to be officiated at the St. Joseph Cathedral will precede the opening ceremonies while a parade will bring the athletes, delegation officials, coaches, chaperons, trainers and officiating officials to the sports oval. The parade will start at Plaza Rizal at 3:30 this afternoon.

The 19 delegations will come from Bais City, Bayawan City, Bogo City,  Bohol, Carcar City, Cebu City, Danao City, Dumaguete City, Guihulngan City, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City, City of Naga, Negros Oriental, Siquijor, Tagbilaran City, Talisay City, Tanjay City and Toledo City.

The events during the five-day regional sports meet include archery (Dauis), arnis (Bool covered court), athletics (CPG Sports Complex),  badminton (Eastern Cogon gym), baseball (Maribojoc Central School), basketball (BIT, HNU Dampas, Songculan gym), billiard (Cellan Billard Hall), boxing (BQ Mall atrium), chess (BPSTEA bldg), football (CPG Sports Complex), futsal (BISU main), gymnastics (Dauis gym), sepak takraw (Bingag covered court), softball (UB VDTALC), swimming, CPG Sports complex),   table tennis (BWS gym), Taekwondo (Mansasa covered court), tennis (CPG Park, Captiol Tennis Court), volleyball (Booy, KC, CPG Sports Complex), wrestling/ pencak (San isidro court) and Wushu (Tiptip covered court).

CVIRAA will wrap up on Friday.
