TAGBILARAN CITY, June 26 (PIA)–In full spirit of “counter-parting,” Catigbian sets aside P670,000 from its own pocket to complement funding sources which help them in rehabilitation works for the town’s earthquake- damaged waterworks.

The counterpart may not be that much, but according to town council secretary Ardessa Estavilla, the town has to scour its meager resources if only to get services flowing again.

From two major funding sources, Catigbian taps its lines to get the taps flowing, Estavilla, who also works as town tourism officer shared.

The town has accessed funds from the Bohol Earthquake Assistance (BEA), a national government fund released to help Bohol towns recover and rehabilitate ruined infrastructure after a massive earthquake hit the island October 15, 2013.

The town has also helped facilitate its communities to identify fixing of the waterworks as a priority for funding by the Bottom Up Budgeting (BUB) of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

In a document the town shared, it showed that from the BEA, Maitum and Mahayag Norte Waterworks systems with funds of P5,210,000 and P7,360,000 respectively, have set the project for publication within the week.

The document, signed by mayor Virgilio Lurot, who happens to be an engineer by profession, also showed that Bongbong-Baang (P4,350,000) and Poblacion (P5,5000,000) are still on detailed engineering design stages.

The entry of the DILG BUB again proved beneficial for the town whose older water sources have run dar, possible the underground water finding other channels.

From the BUB, the town accessed some P4,330,000 for the rehabilitation of its waterworks, a project that is ongoing and has registered a 74.44% accomplishment, Estavilla said.

Recently, the town celebrated its 66th founding anniversary which run from June 17-19, and the waterworks rehab came as among the town’s good news. (rac/PIA7/Bohol)
