Bohol First District Representative Rene Relampagos has reiterated his support to Secretary Mar Roxas who is poised to be the Liberal Party’s standard bearer this coming May 2016 elections.

Recalling the performance of Secretary Mar as a public servant from the time he was a Congressman of Capiz until he became Secretary of Trade and Industry, a Senator and now as an Interior and Local Government Secretary, Cong. Relampagos said, “He has a proven track record, untarnished reputation and has consistently shown strong dedication to help uplift the lives of the Filipino people.”

“It took hard work to get the Philippines to be the country it is today owing to the present administration’s sound development programs. I believe that Secretary Mar has the vision to sustain the country’s economic gains and continue what have been started. He has steadfastly believed in our capacity for growth and helped lead us to where we are right now,” Cong. Relampagos stressed.

Cong. Relammpagos recalled how President PNoy and Secretary Mar were among the first to personally see to the needs of the Boholanos during the devastating 7.2-magnitude earthquake in 2013. He said that despite major challenges in mobility, they have braved the roads to be able to provide help to the victims.

“We really felt that the visit was more than just official. Yes, he (Mar Roxas) is the secretary for local government but we really felt his sincerity in his words, actions and efforts to share in our grief. Bohol will always remember and be thankful for that,” Cong. Relampagos said.

He added, “Secretary Mar was also instrumental in fast-tracking the creation of the Bohol Earthquake Assistance Fund that expedited the recovery and rehabilitation of the province. President PNoy and Secretary Mar even spent one night in the Municipality of Loon, the worst hit by the earthquake, to assess the damage brought by the earthquake, despite their busy schedules.”

The visit of the president and the secretary this week to the province affirms the continued support of the national government to the efforts of our local government towards full rehabilitation and recovery.

Cong. Relampagos said electing Secretary Mar is electing continued strong leadership and good governance. “I have deep conviction that Secretary Mar, who has never been involved in any anomaly nor charges of corruption in all his government service, will be our best contender for President. I have known him personally for years and I have no doubt that with his extensive experience in both executive and legislative branches of government, he is a very good leader.”

He further said that, “I have always admired the silent worker in the secretary. Notwithstanding criticisms, he remains focused on his work. He never rides on mudslinging and, instead, centers on issues. This is my kind of president.”

Last month, Visayan lawmakers held a press conference at the House of Representatives to express their unanimous support for the presidential bid of Secretary Mar.
