He sustained five gunshot wounds from a .45 caliber pistol, four in the head and one went through the heart, causing his instantaneous death.
Based on investigation, prior to the incident, the victim and his client—a dismissed militaryman—had a verbal tussle emanating from the victim’s delay in drafting the design of the suspect’s house.
Six months had already passed and the suspect had almost completed the payment, but the victim had not shown any detail of the design of a house that the former commissioned him to do.
The victim’s wife, Rosalina, narrated that they were having lunch with their child when the suspect suddenly arrived and talked to his husband. After a few minutes they heard burst of gunfire.
She said they ran and when she came back to their house, she found his husband bathed in his own blood.
The suspect, Nilo Betinol, surrendered to the police authorities of Tagbilaran City after two hours.
Betinol, also known as Amay, is a 40-year-old resident of Barangay Taguihon, Baclayon, married, and once a soldier but was discharged from service.
The suspect surrendered through his cousin, SPO4 Reinerio Aniana, assigned at the Tagbilaran City police station.
He admitted to the crime, justifying that his mind was then clouded by anger.
However, the suspect, said he could no longer find the firearm he used in the crime because he threw it somewhere after the incident.
He also admitted that he had already warned the victim that he would kill him if the latter fails to finish the design of the house.
