Practicing mediamen, who are either engaging in print or broadcast, in Bohol are also joining in partisan and electroral exercises.

 Some nine of them have filed their certificates of candidacy last week mostly to become member of the highest legislative body of their respective turfs.

Based on the final list of candidates after the deadline of COC filing on October 16, 2015 of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) provincial office, incumbent city Kagawad Jeremias “Jerry” Cabale Pabe is seeking reelection under the banner of the Liberal Party. He is the mainstay of radio program, Tagbilaran-By-Night over DyRD for years now.

Neophyte Michael “Mike” Ortega Ligalig did not hide his interest to serve his town, Anda, after he filed his COC under LP. He’s the present editor-in-chief of the latest addition the weekly, The Bohol Tribune. He’s also into writing poems in vernacular.

Maybe, Alfredo “Fred” Cellacay Amora is trying his luck to become a lawmaker of his beloved hometown, Guindulman, after he filed again his COC for councilor under LP. He’s a veteran in news writing and presently an anchorman of a tele-radyo based in Jagna town.

Like Amora, incumbent barangay chairman Tito “Dodong” Toledo Libatona of barangay Baucan Norte, Balilihan town would like become a councilor, again, under LP. Anyway if he’s unfortunate like other elections he can go back to his post as punong barangay. He anchors the provincial government paid radio program “Alas Singko” over DYTR.

Also, a Balilihan resident, Salvio Jerome Maniwang Madanguit wanted to regain his old post that of being a town councilor. He filed his COC under the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) of Vice-President Jejomar Binay. He’s a co-anchorman in tandem with Alan Mangmang of Sumada program over DYTR.

Ern Rama Pahayahay can be considered a rookie in partisan exercises come May 9, 2015 since this is first stake. He filed his COC for councilor of his town, Dauis, Bohol, under the Patido Demokratiko Pilipino-Laban ng Bayan (PDP-Laban). As an active reporter of DyTR, he’s a specialist police beat reporting in the name of public information dissemination.

Anthony “Tonton” Ranoa Aniscal won’t like to be a fence sitter, aside from a mainstay of Tagbilaran-By-Night over DYRD. He wants to walk an extra mile by serving Jagna townsfolk after he filed his COC for Jagna councilor under Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino (LDP).

In Baclayon town, two wannabes wanted to be reelected in serving the municipal council. Incumbent councilor Rosendo “Sen” “Sendoy” Buaquina Guingguing filed his COC under the Nacionalist Party (NP). He’s a current host of the Barangay Patrol program over DYTR. He used to work with the defunct weekly Sunday Post.

After a hiatus, Sofonias “Frony” Buagas Narisma, former Baclayon councilor, wanted to regain his old post after a failure in past polls. “Frony” is a veteran media worker particularly in technical know-how having worked for many years in the defunct Sunday Post. He’s now a reliable companion of Ligalig in Bohol Tribune.

Right now, three of the practicing media are already public servants in their respective turfs. DYTR’s anchorman Edgar Tumanda is the incumbent punong barangay of Minol, Mabini, Bohol. Veteran anchor Lito Responte, who once served as DYTR manager, is the host of nightly Tagbilaran News Tonight (TNT) over DYTR. He serves as incumbent number one barangay councilor of Totolan, Dauis, Bohol. The name of Willy Maestrado, senior police beat reporter of DYRD, is the incumbent councilor of barangay Bo-ol, Tagbilaran City. (rvo)
