‘Eco-walk’ to drive climate change awareness

Boholanos from all walks of life will converge as one to denounce the unabated environmental destruction causing global climate change.

Thousands of residents will wake up early on Saturday, Oct. 8, to join a peaceful “Eco Walk” aimed to show a concrete response to the signs of the times and upon the invitation of Pope Francis to care for Mother Earth. The walk is a way to recommit the people’s heart to preserve environment which is part of the 75th Diamond Jubilee celebration of the Diocese of Tagbilaran.

Sister Leodie Riza Remedio, chairperson of the Association of Women, Relgious in Tagbilaran (AWRET) told the Chronicle that she expects about 4,000 participants who will converge in four starting points , 5:30am on Saturday, Oct. 8.  The jump off points will be at the HNU Dampas, St. Therese School in Mansasa, Bohol Wisdom School at CPG North Ave. and at the Totolan covered court in Dauis.

The environmentalist-walkers will bring placards and streamers to dramatize their call for active participation in the fight against climate change.

Highlight of the Eco Walk are talks of known environmentalists Sr. Cresencia Lucero, SFIC on “Laudito Si” touching on international and national issues,  Clicerita Racho on environmental issues in Bohol, Tito Bustero on effects of climate change and Joselito Taladua on proper disposal of garbage.

A homilist during the Holy Mass will be Fr. Dexter Toledo, OFM. He is one of the convenors of the GCCM Philippines or Global Catholic Climate Movement and  the National Coordinator of ECOJIM or Ecological Justice and Interfaith Movement.

Msgr. Jeffrey Malanog,vicar general of the Diocese of Tagbilaran will officiate the Mass at the CPG Sports Complex where all the participants will converge by 10:00am right after the walk.(with reports from Sis. Rose)
