The much publicized interest of defeated gubernatorial bet, former Carmen Mayor Conchita “Che-che” Toribio de los Reyes to join the Liberal Party remains to be close to impossibility.

This came after no less that Acting President Jun Abaya of the Liberal Party (LP) categorically said that as “a general rule and policy, local party evaluates the application and in the case of Bohol, it would be Gov. Edgar Chatto as provincial party chairman.”

The statement of the LP national president reached The Chronicle yesterday as some quarters in the local media insinuated that there was no basis of the Chronicle story which appeared last Sunday quoting a national LP stalwart who said that the entry of delos Reyes  is “not only remote,  but close to impossibility.”

PRELUDE. The personal meeting of Pres. Noynoy Aquino and City Mayor Baba Yap last Friday in Iloilo City could be a prelude to the latter's joining the ruling Liberal Party (LP), ready for next year's election.

Speaking as LP president, Abaya told The Chronicle that “we have our processes and we respect them. If not followed, no one will respect the party.”

The statement came after he was informed that propagandists of de los Reyes continue to trumpet her entry to the Liberal Party because of her connections with former Cavite governor, now PCSO Chairman Ayong Maliksi and former Sen. Panfilo Lacson.

The statement of the LP national president finally put an end the biased newspaper and radio commentaries who claimed that there was no such statement from a national LP official regarding de los Reyes’ futile attempt to join the ruling party.
