A woman who was driving a motorcycle was killed while her passenger was critically injured after figuring in an accident along a national road in Balilihan on Friday morning.

The fatality identified as Irene Camanzo, 23, of Barangay Buyog, Balilihan was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival, said PO1 Edwin Leparto of the Balilihan Police Station.

Her passenger, Juliet Dalugdog, 24, also of Balilihan, remained in critical condition as of Friday morning.

According to Leparto, the victims’ motorcycle slammed into a coconut tree at around 6 a.m. in Barangay Cogon based on the police’s initial probe.

Witnesses told authorities that the driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle at an uphill and curved segment of the road.

Camanzo slammed face first into the tree while Dalugdog was thrown away from the motorcycle.

Laperto said that both victims were not wearing helmets during the accident. (A. Doydora)
