If there’s the idea of Bohol-Cebu bridge, why not Ubay-CPG bridge.

Provincial Board Member Gerardo C. Garcia succeeded in convincing his colleagues in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to have his three proposals passed for Provincial Development Council consideration during the regular session on Friday.

One of these is the proposed bridge that hopefully would link the island town of Pres. Carlos P. Garcia to mainland Bohol via Ubay town, Garcia said in an excluvie interview yesterday after the regular session he attended.

Garcia said that a Resolution “requesting Gov. Edgar Chatto to include in the Provincial Development Council Plan for 2016 Feasibility Study for the Construction of Ubay-Pres. Carlos P. Garcia Bridge” was sanctioned by the SP presided over by Vice-Gov. Concepcion O. Lim.

The second proposal also in a form of Resolution, “requesting Gov. Edgar Chatto to include in the Provincial Development Council (PDC) and Regional Development Council to bid the Ubay Airport Upgrading Project Through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Scheme.

Another Garcia-initiated Resolution passed during the said session on Friday is “requesting Gov. Edgar Chatto to include in the Provincial Development Council Plan for 2016 To Build a Bohol Coliseum To be Located in the town of Talibon, Bohol.”

All of the Resolutions passed were co-sponsored by all SP members and the vice-governor, he said.

Garcia said that the Ubay-CPG bridge has long been the “dream” of CPG townsfolk as this would help accelerate the development of the island town and easy access to Leyte island, which is now being serviced by a roro-type vessel.

Development means creating more economic activities, such as tourism, agriculture and fishery, and consequently creating job opportunities for the local folks in CPG, he explained.

On Bohol coliseum construction, Garcia said it is sad fact that Bohol has insufficient accommodation of the visitors who may hold conventions in the province. And “we need it,” he said, say, hosting of a Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) plays. And he hinted that he proposed it to be erected in Talibon apparently to spread out the development.

The Ubay airport, he said, is a potential airfield for a flying school. Aside from this, the opportunity for those having private planes may land here to visit Bohol, including Anda peninsula as one of the tourist come-ons. (rvo)
