Another ‘criminal’ shot

A native of Loon, tagged as a notorious criminal, is in critical condition at the Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital after being shot past 11 p.m. on Thursday last week along CPG North Avenue near the Coca-Cola plant at Cogon District, this city.

Police identified the victim as one Efren Barabat, also known as Shotgun, a resident of Upper Calceta St. in Cogon District, this city and a native of Loon.

He sustained a gunshot wound in the head, in the cheek. Scene of the crime operatives recovered an empty fired cartridge.

Investigators also found out that the victim was the man brought to the city police station by a barangay tanod of Cogon and of Cogon police outpost together with a complainant, one Miguela Jorza, 66 years old, married and a resident of Rizal Street, also of Cogon District, this city.

The complainant alleged that Barabat harassed and threatened her through a text message, stating that “MAAYO KANG BITAYON”, and further alleged that at around 10:30 p.m. of September 24, he entered their house without permission.

Barabat was released by the city police as the complaint still has to be referred to the barangay.

Police record also shows that Barabat had been tagged in a robbery and had been involved in illegal drugs activities.

He had recently been released from the Tagbilaran City Jail where he was detained for the crime of trespass to dwelling, another crime related to violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act, and another violation of Batas Pambansa Bilang 6 for illegal possession of bladed weapon.

He had also been previously convicted for the crime of theft and homicide.
