“The beginning of wisdom is to work to acquire it. At the cost of all you possess, strive to gain insights. Hold her close, for she will exalt you and bring you honor if you embrace her. She will crown you with graces and put a diadem of splendor on your head.” (Proverbs: Chapter 4, verse 7-9).

The parents of Karina Mae Uy must have been extremely happy and proud of the great honor she has given to them when she passed the recent Board Examination for Guidance Counselors she took last August 5 & 6, 2015 in Manila. She topped the said examination out of more than 400 examinees all over the country. The university where she graduated as Summa Cum Laude at Holy Name University in 2011 for the degree of Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Cebu Normal University where she took her M.A. in Guidance and Counseling where she got the Best Thesis Award, must also be proud of her academic achievement.

Karina Mae Uy,  or KM, as she is fondly called by friends, is a consistent achiever during her student life. She finished her Kindergarten at the DML Montessori School at Tagbilaran City as First Honor. She also graduated as Valedictorian in her primary grades at Holy Spirit School, this City and in March, 2007, she graduated as Valedictorian during the High School graduation in the same learning institution taking home 9 medals of academic excellence.

In March, 2011, KM graduated at Holy Name University with the highest grade of Summa Cum Laude with Leadership Award and Outstanding Graduate of HNU, earning the degree of Bachelor of Science in Psychology.

Minor financial constraints were not a hindrance to the coffers of the family as their two children were consistent scholars in high school and college, allowing them to finish their courses with flying colors.

Her brother, Antonio Karlos, also topped his Kindergarten and finished Valedictorian in his Elementary and High School. He is now in his 5th year at the University of the Philippines,  Diliman enjoying his full scholarship for the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering.

KM’s parents are simple and humble people, friendly to their neighbours and devoted Catholics. Her father, Noel, who works at Holy Name University’s Center for Community Extension and Development, augments his family income by singing in hotels, resorts and special occasions being a member of an acoustic duo here in the Province of Bohol. Her mother, Tita, is a registered Midwife but decided to attend to their children when they started schooling.

True to her Zodiac Sign , Scorpio, KM is equipped with exceptional judgment and conscientious. She is very diligent, well groomed, attractive and reserved.

As her Grandma, I feel so happy and proud of her academic achievements. As a child she is very respectful, kind, generous, modest and honest, to her family, to her friends and to us. I find her truly reliable and have high ambition for her education, as once she confided to me that she will still take up Doctorate Studies in her field to enhance her educational achievements. What an ambitious girl and I congratulate her for that. I am confident that she will make it to the top.

As the line of the proverb says “ wisdom will crown you with grace and put  a diadem of splendour in your head”, KM’s success is the work of wisdom, she has worked for it and acquired it through the grace of our Lord. (Linda Tubo Uy, HNC Class 1956)
