Dr. Virgie Zapanta assumed as new city division chief to replace Dr. Evagenline Luminarias who was transferred to Dumaguete City.
Though Luminarias was hit with protest against her administration of the city DepED, the transfer was due to the reshuffling of division superintendents in the region.
Zapanta hails from Getafe, Bohol. However, she  rose from the ranks from an ordinary public school teacher in Mandue City where she is now the division superintendent. She served for the division as teacher for 25 years until she was appointed as division superintendent which she served for five years.
Zapanta paid her courtesy call to City Mayor Baba Yap who welcomed the appointment of a new city Deped chief.  Her performance in Mandaue City was rated high as evident of the 50-strong teachers of Mandaue who escorted her to the city as their gesture of sending her off to another assignment which was not to their delight.
The new city DepEd had her first radio interview over dyRD yesterday morning.
Zapanta  eArned her undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of  the Philippines  majoring in educational management and her doctorate  degree from the University of the Visayas, majoring in educational administration.
