Less than a month before the opening of the 2016 school year on Monday, June 13, 2016, Department of Education (DEP-ED), Division of Bohol is now all set for the full implementation of the K to 12 basic education program starting this year.

Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Wilfreda Bongalos told DYRD Balita yesterday, Monday, May 16, 2016 that the 129 public schools in Bohol offering the senior high school (SHS) which covers the last two years of the K to 12 program are now prepared to meet the influx of more than 250,000 students.

More newly completed classrooms and 471 newly hired teachers has been part of the school preparations of DEP-ED Bohol, according to Bongalos.

Grades 11 and 12 covered by SHS students will go through a core curriculum and subjects under a track of their choice that will include academic (business, science, engineering, humanities and social science and a general academic strand).

Technical – Vocational – Livelihood with highly specialized subject subjects with TESDA qualifications, sports, arts and design also form part of the track subjects, according to Bongalos.

SHS will be offered free in public schools meaning the burden of expenses for the additional two years need not be completely shouldered by parents.

Bongalos also encouraged parents and the community to lend a hand in the Brigada Eskwela starting May 30 to June 4, 2016.

A community volunteer activity, Brigada Eskwela taps stakeholders to clean and beautify classrooms for the school year opening. (Chito M. Visarra with reports from Rey Tutas).
