A day after the killing of one of the top local drug personalities of a world-renowned tourist destination, five suspected drug personalities, fearing for their lives are dead set to give up their lucrative but illegal business and turn themselves in to police authorities.

Police Senior Inspector Joemar Pomarejos, Police Chief of the Panglao Police Station told DYRD Balita that the suspected drug dealers sent surrender feelers to the police and promised to yield themselves on Thursday afternoon, June 30, 2016.

Pomarejos did not disclose the conditions and the place of the surrender except that this will take place in one of the ten barangays of Panglao.

Panglao is listed among the top ten municipalities considered by police authorities as “deeply infiltrated” by drug dealers partly because of the thousands of foreign and local tourists drawn by its kilometers of white powdery sand beaches.

Cloyd Quijada, 38 and a resident of Sitio Calapiyan, Barangay Danao was shot dead on Monday after he fired at pursuing police officers led by Pomarejos during a buy bust operation.

Quijado sustained two gunshot wounds in the head after police fired back at the fleeing suspect who yielded two packs of shabu and a snub nosed .38 caliber revolver.

Pomarejos called on all those involved in the illegal drug business in Panglao to put a stop to their nefarious activities or face the full brunt of the law.

The Panglao Police Station is in the thick of “Oplan TokHang” or tuktok-hangyo, a drug campaign appealing to drug users and dealers to give up their use of illegal drugs. (Chito M. Visarra with reports from Rey Tutas)
