The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) filed a tax evasion complaint before the Department of Justice (DOJ) against Former Carmen mayor and defeated congressional candidate Conchita Toribio Delos Reyes.

Former BIR Commissioner Kim Henares filed 11 tax evasion cases on her last day as the agency’s chief yesterday and one complaint was against Delos Reyes for failing to pay the government P15.73 million in taxes.

According to the investigation, the net worth of Delos Reyes, who is the founder of cosmetic company Beauche International, hiked to P19.10 million in 2012 from just P4 million in 2011 but her tax payments did not match the marked increase.

Delos Reyes ran for the congressional seat in the third district in the last elections but was defeated by incumbent Congressman Arthur Yap by 29,000 votes.
