The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Bohol assured complainants that they will take action against businesses that pay their employees or laborers with amounts below the minimum wage.
According to Gerry Guidaben, officer-in-charge of DOLE Bohol, their office is ready to take complaints from employees who are not paid accordingly, noting that they will go after employers who underpay workers.
The minimum wage in the province is at P310 per day but authorities discovered that many businesses still pay their employees sums below the said amount. The department’s report is also backed by complaints from underpaid employees.
The DOLE also said that some workers do not stand up against such employers out of fear of losing their jobs.
However, Guidaben assured employees that they are protected from such cases by the National Labor Relations Commission.
According to Guidaben, a big company in the city is currently facing a case after its employee complained for being underpaid.
The official did not disclose the name of the said establishment. (with reports from Allen Doydora)
