Seven city and town councilors are expected to run for the leadership of the 378-member Philippine Councilors League (PCL) in Bohol.

Most of the possible candidates are reelected councilors, members of the Liberal Party, and from the first district, various sources said.

Members of the Liberal Party who will reportedly run for the Bohol PCL’s leadership are the group’s interim president and Antequera councilor Cecil Rebosura, Jeremias Ellorimo of Sikatuna, Joan Robie Cajes of Trinidad, and Joseph Bompat of Tagbilaran City.

Town solons who ran as independents are also expected to join the province-wide race including Engr. Teofisto Pagar Jr. of Jagna and Ramonito “Monching” Torrefranca of Carmen who previously ran for the post but lost to the immediate past PCL president Antonio Ouano Jr. in 2013.

Councilor Gloria Gementiza of San Isidro, a member of the United Nationalist Alliance, will also reportedly run for the group’s presidency.

Of the seven anticipated candidates, only Rebosura and Ellorimo have so far publicly conveyed their intention to run for the leadership of the influential government organization.

Sources noted that the date of the PCL election has not been set yet.

However, the group will have to conduct the election soon as most of the then-incumbent leaders of the Bohol PCL have either failed to secure a council seat in their respective municipalities or have won in their bid for other positions. (with reports from Rey Tutas)
