An apparent plot to kill a former drug pusher failed after Leo Vijar, 28 years old, single and jobless, the target of the gun attack, ran for cover under darkness and survived.
The shooting incident occurred on Wednesday evening at the same time another drug personality was fatally shot by unknown persons right across the Panglao town plaza.
Police Officer lll (PO3) Angelo Namang, investigator of the Calape Police Station told DYRDÂ Balita that two assailants riding in tandem on a motorcycle fired twice hitting Vijar in his right arm.
The victim was sitting in a roadside along Sitio Tugas, Barangay Sta. Cruz, Calape when the gunmen suddenly appeared.
However, police authorities are looking into the likelihood that Vijar is back in the drug trade because of his presence in a barangay tagged as “deeply infiltrated”.
Police officers led by Police Senior Inspector (PSI) Cresente Gurrea, Chief of the Calape Police Station responded after receiving shooting alarm from a certain Benjamin Jungco, a habal-habal (motorcycle taxi) driver.
Vijar who hails from Barangay Panaytayan, Tubigon is now recuperating at the Tubigon Community Hospital. (Chito Visarra and Rey Tutas)
