STRONG ENOUGH. Several rooftops of houses and some trees were uprooted when a mini tornado known as "ipo-ipo" hit 45 houses in barangays Poblacion, San Vicenter and San Roque in Baclayon town last Sunday at about 5:15 in the afternoon.
STRONG ENOUGH. Several rooftops of houses and some trees were uprooted when a mini tornado known as “ipo-ipo” hit 45 houses in barangays Poblacion, San Vicenter and San Roque in Baclayon town last Sunday at about 5:15 in the afternoon.

A mini tornado, locally termed as “ipo-ipo” damaged 45 houses in three barangays in Baclayon town shortly after 5 o’clock in the afternoon last Sunday.

Baclayon Mayor Benny Uy told The Chronicle that inventory of damaged houses showed two, totally destroyed while the 43 other houses were partially, both heavily and some lightly damaged.

The 15-minute movement of the “ipo-ipo” swept from barangay Poblacion to San Vicenete and to San Roque, damaging the houses.

Aside from the houses, it also knocked down trees and other plants in the three barangays Mayor Uy said the estimated cost of damage will known today after final assessment of the damages.

Initially, 30 houses were listed as damaged last Monday.
