Unregistered PUVs openly operating in city bus terminal

Unregistered vehicles for hire (V-Hire) or “colorums” are blatantly operating within the vicinity of the Integrated Bus Terminal (IBT) openly thumbing their nose at helpless city traffic enforcers.

IBT Supervisor Gloria Lucrecia “Inday” Inting poured out her frustration to DYRD Balita over the inability of the Land Transportation Office (LTO), Highway Patrol Group (HPG) and the City Traffic Management Office (CTMO) to stop unregistered vehicles (colorums) from taking in passengers.

Unregistered V-Hires are forced to pick up passengers in the areas surrounding the bus terminal with the strict enforcement of the non-entry of unregistered vehicles in the IBT parking area, according to Inting.

Public transport laws mandates that only public vehicles with legitimate franchises can transport passengers to ensure the safety and convenience of the riding public.

According to Inting, vehicles marked with the GT or garage terminal markings are allowed to pick up passengers inside the terminal.

But, according to Inting, several vehicles with GT markings had no registration papers or expired franchises.

“Only the joint efforts of the LTO, the HPG and the CTMO can solve this problem of unregistered vehicles which endangers the safety of the riding public”, Inting said. (Chito Visarra)
