A total of 105 vehicles sequestered by the Land Transportation Office (LTO)Â for violations of RA 4136 known as the Land Transportation and Traffic Code are awaiting disposal at the holding area at the LTO District Office, Dampas Road, Tagbilaran City.
According to LTO Tagbilaran Registrar Erwin Patalinghug, the total number of impounded vehicles consists of motorcycles and motor vehicles.
However, Patalinghug is still clueless on the manner the vehicles will be disposed and is relying on guidelines from their head office.
Majority of the vehicles are motorcycles, one unregistered (colorum) bus and cars that have been apparently abandoned by their owners and is now lying idle, rusting, deteriorating and covered with vegetation.
Patalinghug emphasized that only motorcycles and motor vehicles that has been impounded for more than five years will be disposed.
Disposal of impounded vehicles is normally done thru auctions which the LTO should inform the owners twenty days before the scheduled auction.
As required by law, written notices of disposal of impounded vehicles should be sent to the owners before any disposal proceedings.
Patalinghug called on the owners of the impounded vehicles to settle their penalties to avoid disposal of their vehicles. (Chito M. Visarra and Rey Tutas)
