Senior citizens nabbed for illegal gambling

Hours after the launching of Oplan Roulette, the police anti-illegal gambling operation, three senior citizens were arrested for taking part in illegal card and numbers game.

Caught playing an illegal cards game by the Theft and Robbery Section and Quick Response Team of the Tagbilaran City Police Office at Matuod St., Barangay Manga on Thursday afternoon, August 3, 2016 were Cielo Tomo, 60, Luciano Macalinaw, 76 and Alfeo Palacio, all residents of Barangay Manga.

Bet money of P78.00 was confiscated including a deck of cards used in the illegal card game.

Oplan Roulette was rolled out by Police Superintendent Nicomedes Olaivar, Jr., Chief of the Tagbilaran City Police Station to enforce, apprehend and prosecute all illegal gambling activities in the city.

On the same day, another senior citizen and her companion were caught in a police sting or entrapment operation engaging in the illegal numbers game as ushers.

Teta Alinabon, 63, married and a resident of Upper Katipunan, Barangay Mansasa was caught after Police Officer 1 Mariz Aldrin Gabuya and Police Officer 1 Ray Neil Bibat posed as bettors accepted bet money for a number combination in the vicinity of the Bohol Wisdom School.

Also, Manuel Seloterio alias Jojo Tambok, 44, married and a resident of Gallares St., Barangay ll was arrested by PO3 Rannie Damos and PO3 Jake Catane, posing as bettors, received bet money for a number combination inside the Dagohoy Public Market along Hontanosas St., Barangay Poblacion lll.

Senior citizens Tomo, Macalinaw and Alinabon were spared the embarrassment of imprisonment and were released while awaiting for the proper charges to be filed in court but their companions are now detained at the police lock-up jail. (Chito M. Visarra and Rey Tutas)
