Second District Representative Erico Aristotle Aumentado was appointed chairperson of the Committee on Science and Technology of the 17th Congress.
Aumentado replaced Congressman Victor Yu of the 1st District in Zamboanga del Sur as the chair of the 35-member committee.
The Bohol representative was also appointed vice chairman of the 55-member committee on tourism headed by Representative Lucy Torres Gomez of Leyte’s 4th district who took over the former post of 1st District Cong. Rene Relampagos.
The science and technology committee has jurisdiction in all matters relating to science and technology including scientific and technological research, and development and technology transfer.
It also has authority over science and technology education including the Philippine National Science High School System, intellectual property rights and biotechnology, and climate and weather forecasting. (Chito M. Visarra and Rey Tutas)
