A surprise came to the Boholanos when all of a sudden prices of petroleum products reduced to its lowest level, bringing present pump prices even cheaper than the prevailing prices in Cebu City.
This came almost unnoticed by commuters as the series of reduction in oil prices was implemented nationwide.
In a market check conducted by The Chronicle yesterday, significantly noticed in the price reduction was on Unleaded Gas. The pump prices in Tagbilaran City are P32.65 and P33.75 as compared to Cebu prices at P36.35 and P36.35.
For diesel, the Tagbilaran prices are P26.60 and P25.95 while Cebu price is P27.00.
The reduction in fuel prices was triggered with the big price slash implemented by Petron after upgrading its facilities at the refinery station bringing out an unprecedented improved production level.
The recent price reduction in fuel prices finally gave a relief to the Boholanos who were already hopeless in their plea for government intervention to bring down the prices. It may be recalled that so many years, petroleum prices in the province were tagged excessively high compared to the other provinces.
In fact, a move to sue the “Big Three” players was perceived as the ultimate solution to the unattended clamor to reduce fuel prices here. Due to the maintained high fuel prices, a “cartel” was perceived by the public as the primary reason behind.
“Too much greed” among top fuel gas distributors caused the public’s ire while blaming the local government for not being able to control the high fuel prices here as compared to the other provinces.
