An ex-convict was shot dead by an unidentified suspect in Duero on Thursday night.

The victim, Anastacio “Ayong” Escobal who was previously convicted of murder, was in a drinking session at the house of town councilor Johrem Payla before he was gunned down by the unknown assailant.

Escobal reportedly went home ahead of his companions, and was met by the gunman at his house.

The victim’s companions said that they heard gunshots just a few minutes after Escobal left.

They rushed to the victim’s home to investigate and found a bloodied Escobal sprawled on the floor inside his house.

Operatives of the Duero police found three spent shell casings and a slug of .45 caliber pistol at the crime scene.

Investigators are currently conducting a follow-up probe on the killing to identify the motive and people behind the murder of Escobal. (Allen Doydora)
