A man ranked second in Danao’s watchlist of drug personalities was killed during a buy-bust operation in the said town on Tuesday afternoon.

Police gunned down suspect Samuel Melencion, 29 and a resident of Brgy. San Carlos, Danao, after he allegedly pulled out his firearm during the sting operation.

According to PO2 Basil Evangelista, Danao police investigator, Melencion attempted to use his caliber .357 pistol after sensing that his live-in partner, Demetria Sanchez, sold suspected shabu to an undercover cop.

However, Melencion was unable to fire his weapon as police stationed around the buy-bust area were able to shoot him first.

The operatives hit Melencion in the head and stomach.

Police said that the armed suspect was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Following the shooting, Danao police authorities arrested the 29-year-old Sanchez, who is also a resident of the said barangay.

According to Evangelista, the couple was subjected to Oplan Tokhang but did not heed the police’s call for them to end their involvement in illegal drug activities.

The two did not surrender to authorities and continued to peddle drugs prompting the Danao police to set up the anti-drug operation against them, Evangelista added.

Sanchez is currently detained at the Danao lock-up jail while authorities are set to file drug charges against her on Thursday, September 1, 2016. (Allen Doydora)
