Amid an intensified campaign against illegal drugs, Tagbilaran City police are also targeting illegal “Swertres” operators in a bid to stamp out unauthorized gambling and numbers game in the city.

Police at 7 p.m. on Monday arrested an usher of the illegal numbers game along CPG North Ave, Barangay Cogon in Tagbilaran City.

Prior to the arrest, the Tagbilaran CIty police had been receiving reports on the said illegal numbers game being conducted in the barangay prompting the authorities to set up the operation.

Personnel of the intelligence section of the city police caught suspect Mendell Villegas in the act of letting one Placidor Fortrich place bets for Swertres.

The operatives led by SPO4 Yolando Bagotchay immediately arrested the suspect.

They were also able to seize illegal numbers game paraphernalia at the scene.

Villagas is currently detained pending the filing of charges against him for violating Republic Act 9287 or the law against the illegal numbers game. (Rey Tutas)
