Soldiers will be seen stationed across public places in Tagbilaran City in the following days.

According to Lieutenant Col. Jose Dodjie Belloga, commander of the Philippine Army’s 47th Infantry Battalion, they will be deploying personnel in the city including the airport, seaport and bus terminals.

This, after the military’s Central Command under Major Gen. Raul Del Rosario issued a directive to soldiers ordering them to augment the police force in securing key areas in the country.

Belloga said that the 47th IB has been coordinating with the Tagbilaran City police under Supt. Nicomedes Olaivar as the said army personnel are set to be deployed.

The 47th IB, which is stationed in Bohol, is also tasked to set up checkpoints in roads across the province, Belloga added.

Amid the implementation of intensified security measures, Belloga asked the public to remain calm and not be alarmed by the presence of soldiers in the city’s streets and other public places.

He said that Army personnel are stationed in the city to help prevent crimes and support the police in their law enforcement duties.

Following President Rodrigo Duterte’s declaration of state of lawlessness in the country, the Armed Forces of the Philippines is now mandated to help the Philippine Nation Police in battling crime. (Rey Tutas)
