A man who was just released from Tubigon police custody and his companion were shot dead by an unidentified suspect in the said town on Tuesday at 9 a.m.
Police identified the fatalities as Joel Pinoy and Edgar Sobrado, both self-confessed drug personalities who lived in Brgy. Cabulihan, Ubay.
Both of the victims each sustained a gunshot in their heads, which caused their instantaneous death.
According to PO1 Ronald Manlangit of the Tubigon police, the two victims came from the town’s police station as they were gunned down.
Manlangit told DYRD Balita that Sobrado was detained at the Tubigon lock-up jail for a physical injury incident.
However, Sobrado was released on Tuesday morning after the reglemantary period lapsed as no one pursued to file charges against him.
The victim was fetched by Pinoy at the Tubigon police station and both reportedly rode a habal-habal (motorcycle-for-hire) as they headed home.
Upon reaching Brgy. Putuhan, a man on board another motorcycle moved beside the victims’ habal-habal and shot them, resulting in Sobrado and Pinoy’s deaths.
The habal-habal driver sustained minor cuts as the motorcycle he was driving flipped to its side following the shooting.
He is reportedly still unable to give information on the incident as he suffered trauma, police said.
According to Manlangit, Sobrado and Pinoy previously surrendered to authorities through Oplan Tokhang for involvement in illegal drug activities.
Pinoy had already survived a previous attempt on his life as he was ambushed purportdely because of his involvement in illegal activities.
Meanwhile, Sobrado was arrested for drug possession, but was freed after posting bail. (Allen Doydora)
