The president of the League of Municipalities (LMP) in Bohol is planning to have all mayors in the province undergo drug testing.
LMP president Clarin Mayor Allen Piezas told DYRD Balita on Thursday that he will consult other members of the organization regarding the proposed measure during their next meeting next month.
He said that subjecting the highest ranking town and city officials to drug testing would set an example to constituents.
According to Piezas, the initiative is also a way for local chief executives to show support for the Duterte administration’s war against illegal drugs.
Since the national government launched its intensified drive against drugs, mayors in Dauis, Panglao and Balilihan have voluntarily undergone drug testing and were found negative of any drug traces.
Mayors in the province are the heads of the Municipal Peace and Order Council and Municipal Anti-Drug Abuse Council in their respective towns.
The organizations oversee peace and order situation in each town and a municipality’s drive against crime and illegal drug activities. (Rey Tutas)
