Board Member Elpidio Jala on Wednesday appealed to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) peace and order committee to come up with measures that would expedite investigations on extrajudicial killings.
Jala in a privilege speech expressed concern over extrajudicial killings in Bohol and the rest of the country as he aired speculations that vigilantes could be in cahoots with drug syndicates, police or the military.
He said that identifying the people behind the said deaths should be a chief priority of the government.
The third district board memeber noted that news on extrajudicial killings in the country including Bohol are reported on a regular basis while some cases have even been linked to Presdident Rodrigo Duterte.
The lawmaker also asked authorities to keep track of statistics of drug-linked deaths including those gunned down in legitimate police operations and those killed by unidentified suspects.
According to Supt. Lorenzo Batuan, operations chief of the Bohol police, 20 drug suspects have been killed during legitimate operations since the launch of Oplan Tokhang and Project Double Barrel, the Duterte administration’s blueprint for its drug war. (Rey Tutas)Â
