An injured green sea turtle is scheduled to be brought to Cebu for treatment after it was rescued in waters off Baclayon last week.
According to Baclayon Mayor Benecio Uy, he had directed concerned personnel of the local government unit to arrange the transfer of the injured animal, which is estimated to be 60 years old, to Cebu.
Uy said that he sea turtle may have been hit by a boat propeller causing the injuries it sustained.
He noted that a wound was found in the sea turtle’s fin.
Authorities also believe that the animal was able to ingest plastic in waters off Cagayan and may have drifted towards Baclayon.
Uy said that the sea turtle was rescued by two fishermen who saw it afloat in a marine sanctuary near the island of Pamilacan.
The injured sea turtle was weighed at 90 kilos while its length and width was measured at 120 centimeters and 76 cm, respectively. (Rey Tutas)Â
