Tight security measures are in place and personnel at the Tagbilaran City port are on the lookout for illegal drugs in one of the province’s main entry points, a Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) official said.

James Gantalao, Tagbilaran City PPA manager, said that they have implemented measures to block the passage of contraband as he vowed support for the police in its crackdown on illegal drugs.

He said that they are tightly monitoring each docking vessel including those that travel to and from Leyte and Cebu.

The port official noted that police are also securing the pier 24 hours a day, particularly as reports have indicated that drugs in Bohol also come from Leyte, not just Cebu.

President Rodrigo Duterte had previously blamed arrested Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa, whose son, Kerwin, is allegedly a drug lord, for the proliferation of illegal drugs in Bohol.

Last week, two men believed to be members of Kerwin’s drug ring which allegedly operates out of Leyte were arrested by National Bureau of Investigation agents in Tagbilaran City. (Rey Tutas)
