The completion of two billion-peso projects in Bohol will push tourism growth in the province driving tourist entries to surge to up to one million in 2019, said the chief economic planner in Central Visayas.

According to National Economic Development Authority (NEDA)-7 director Efren Carreon, the New Bohol Airport and the modern Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital in Cortes will bolster economic growth, particularly through the tourism sector.

Carreon noted that tourist arrivals in Bohol have been on an uptrend since 2013 posting a 32-percent growth in two years.

Based on data, tourist entries continuously rose from 389,000 in 2013 to 455,000 and 602,000 in 2014 and 2015, respectively.

The two-year growth of Bohol tourism was twice as fast compared to the average increase in tourist arrivals in the entire region from 2013 to 2015, Carreon said.

Meanwhile, power consumption in Bohol went up by 10.5 percent in 2015 compared to the previous year while the entire region only posted a 4.9 percent increase in said period.

Power consumption in Bohol was at 283,000 kilowatt-hour in 2014 and grew to 313,000 kWh in 2015.

The figure is expected to continue to surge as infrastructure projects start to be completed and tourist influx increases. (Rey Tutas)
