Tagbilaran City police chief Supt. Nicomedes Olaivar, Jr. is mulling the creation of a Special Weapon and Tactics (SWAT) team for the city’s police force.

Olaivar said that he gathered on Wednesday new and young policemen who are candidates to join the proposed unit.

The SWAT team will be comprised of eight police officers who are qualified to join a special training.

However, the police chief admitted that the initiative would require a sizeable fund to purchase complete equipment for the elite police unit.

The need for the allocation prompted Olaivar to appeal to the Tagbilaran City government through Mayor John Geesnell Yap and Vice Mayor Jose Antonio Veloso for financial support.

Olaivar, several years ago, led the creation of the Bohol Provincial Police Office’s SWAT team during the term of late former governor Erico Aumentado. (Wellie Maestrado)
