The local government unit (LGU) of Dauis has started to conduct drug counseling and education of self-confessed drug personalities who surrendered under Oplan Tokhang.

According to Dauis Mayor Miriam Sumaylo, they have started to implement their anti-drug program through an information drive in the villages of Tabalong, Totolan, Mayacabac and Catarman.

The initiative was led by the Dauis LGU, Philippine National Police (PNP), Municipal Health Office, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office and religious sector.

Sumaylo said that the LGU has been working in coordination with the Department of Labor and Employment to provide livelihood to the self-confessed drug users and pushers.

Based on police data, 1,109 drug personalities in Dauis surrendered to police since the implementation of Oplan Tokhang.

Dauis’ anti-drug drive is patterned from the program of the provincial government’s Center for Drug Education and Counseling (CDEC).

Other towns are also set to follow the CDEC anti-drug program. (Rey Tutas)
