The Lila local government unit (LGU) has started to assess the recovery needs of the hundreds of drug surrenderees in the town in an effort to determine whether they need education and counseling or drug rehabilitation.According PO1 Niña Paig of the community relations section of the Lila Police Station, the 404 self-confessed drug personalities started to undergo on Monday the five-day Alcohol Smoking and Substance Involvement Screening Test-Brief Intervention (ASSIST-BI) program at the Lila Gymnasium.
The surrenderees which include barangay officials of the town will be assessed by a team composed of personnel of the Lila police, Department of Interior and Local Government, Provincial Health Office, Rural Health Unit-Lila and Center for Drug Education and Counseling.
Those confirmed to be in need of urgent treatment will be sent to a drug rehabilitation center in Argao or Mandaue in Cebu, Paig said.
The program is implemented by the Lila LGU led by Mayor Regina Salazar in accordance with the provincial government’s anti-drug drive intended to reform drug surenderees through various modes of intervention. (Rey Tutas)
