The victim was found bloodied and without underwear outside an abandoned resto-bar in Alona, Panglao.

A woman believed to have been raped was found dead near an abandoned resto-bar in Barangay Tawala, Panglao at 6 a.m. on Sunday while two suspects in the incident were arrested a few hours after.

The lifeless body of victim Mayet Agonias, a 30-year-old resident of Brgy. Taug, Valencia, was found by personnel of the Panglao tourist police bloodied and without underwear.

Agonias’ head was smashed with a large rock causing her instantaneous death, police said.

According to Panglao police, the suspects were identified through a closed-circuit television camera (CCTV) footage taken near the crime scene.

The authorities then launched a hot pursuit which led to the arrest of brothers Jimmy Buaya, 26, and Joseph Buaya, 18, both construction workers from Brgy. Nueva Fuerza, Carmen, Bohol.

Both suspects were arrested at their brother’s residence at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday at Barangay Alegria, Loboc.

Following the arrest, the Buayas admitted to having killed Agonias out of severe drunkenness claiming that they “were not themselves.”

However, police are still waiting for the result of a medical examination which will determine if the victim was raped.

“Only the medical would be able to make a conclusion regarding the subject together with the circumstantial evidence,” said Chief Inps. Jomar Pomarejos, chief of the Panglao police.

The rape investigation was conducted after the victim’s underwear was found inside the abandoned resto-bar while the body was located outside, he added.

Based on initial police investigation, the suspects met Agonias through a drinking session and then went home together toward a bunkhouse of an Alona resort which they worked for.

The three were seen together prior to the killing through a CCTV camera, said Pomarejos.

The police chief also noted that the victim may have fought back prompting the suspects to kill her using the large rock which severely damaged the victim’s face.

According to Pomarejos, the suspects are currently detained at the lock-up jail of the Panglao Police Station and were subjected to drug tests. (Allen Doydora)
