Should there be no sudden emergence of problems, a roll-on-roll-off (RORO) type fast craft will start to ply the Tubigon-Cebu route in December this year, said the town’s mayor.

According to Tubigon Mayor William Jao, the Archipelago Shipping Company is set to launch the specialized Fastcat vessel which is capable of travelling at fast speeds despite its hefty size.

Jao said that the seacraft is able to travel at 16 knots allowing the vessel to reach Cebu from Tubigon in one hour and thirty minutes.

The vessel can carry 275 passengers, 45 sports utility vehicles and seven large vehicles such as 10-wheeler trucks, he added.

The Tubigon mayor is optimistic that the new Fastcat will address longstanding issues involving safety and convenience of existing fast crafts.

He noted that the vessel will also serve as an upgraded version of current RORO boats operating in Bohol.

A similar Fastcat vessel is expected to start plying the San Carlos, Negros-Toledo, Cebu route once the Tubigon-Cebu trips are launched.

According to Jao, it is possible that Fastcat will also cater to passengers in Jagna travelling to Cagayan de Oro City and vice versa. (Allen Doydora)
