A 60-year-old man was hit by a 10-wheeler truck and killed in the grisly accident in Cortes town on Wednesday.
Police said that the victim’s body was cut in half after being hit by the speeding truck in Barangay Loreto, Cortes.
The victim was identified by authorities as Rosendo Espejo, a resident of the said village.
According to reports, Espejo was walking along the side of the road when the out-of-control vehicle rammed him.
The driver of the truck, Raymundo Maghuyop, a resident of Brgy. Lucob, Calape, said that the victim suddenly tried to cross the street.
Maghuyop narrated that he was caught by surprise and was unable to step on the brake pedal in time.
Police said that the driver immediately surrendered to authorities following the accident but was immediately released.
The incident was reportedly settled between Maghuyop and the victim’s family. (Allen Doydora)
