Bohol will experience a 13-hour total blackout on Saturday due to repairs to the province’s power source in Leyte, said an official of the National Grid Corporation Philippines (NGCP).

According to Betty Martinez, public affairs officer of NGCP-Visayas, the province-wide power outage will start at 4 a.m. and power services will resume within the day at 5 p.m.

Martinez attributed the power interruption to a maintenance operation on Project 2 of the Ormoc-Maasin 138-Kilovolt line.

She said that authorities will work round the clock to make sure that the blackout will not last longer than announced.

The provincial government has been seeking measures to gradually lessen the province’s dependence on the Leyte grid particularly as Bohol’s power demand continues to grow.

In October, Provincial Administrator Ae Damalerio said that three big power companies are mulling to build a land-based power supply in Bohol.

He noted that representatives of the firms have already started to conduct a feasibility study on the project and a survey at the possible site of the power plant. (Rey Tutas)
