The local government of Panglao has withdrawn its contingent from the Sinulog Street Dancing Competition 2017 in Cebu due to security concerns, said the town’s Mayor.
Panglao Mayor Leonilla Montero told DYRD Balita that the withdrawal was prompted by the declaration of state of national emergency in the country amid threats of other attacks similar to the Davao City bombing in early September.
According to Montero, a fund had already been allocated for the town’s entry in the competition but this will be earmarked for other activities instead.
The mayor however assured that Panglao will be rejoining the competition in 2018 if there will be no more complications.
Panglao’s street dancers have been the chosen representatives of Bohol three times in a row at the Sinulog competition which is held every January.
In years that it joined the competition, Panglao had been a consistent recipient of both minor and major awards in the Sinulog street dancing tilt. (Allen Doydora)
