A man was killed while five others were hurt when two motorcycles collided head-on with a mini dump truck along CPG North Avenue, Barangay Taloto, Tagbilaran City at 5 p.m. on Monday.

Driver of a Suzuki Raider motorcycle Jude Roman, a resident of Pob. 1, Tagbilaran City, died on the spot while passenger Raffy Kevin Solis, a 21-year-old PMI student and Tobacco St. resident, suffered injuries.

Three passengers of the opposing dump truck and the driver of the other motorcycle, identified as Jonas Pelpinosas, a 17-year-old resident of Sierra Bullones, were also injured.

According to traffic investigator PO3 Romeo Golosino, the dump truck was travelling towards Brgy. Manga while the two motorcycles were heading downtown.

Golosino said that the dump truck attempted to overtake another vehicle after an incoming car drove by but the driver of the ill-fated truck failed to notice the trailing two motorcycles on the other lane.

Both motorcycles smashed into the incoming truck and were thrown away towards a wall of an establishment along the road.

The mini dump truck was carrying paint owned by Mandaue City-based Green World Construction and driven by Rully Tampos, 36, police said.

Others on board were 18-year-old Jojo Tampos of Bogo City, Cebu, and three others who were also injured identified as Jessie Rahil, 60, and John Baguio, 18, both from Cebu City, and Arvin Jabas of Mandaue City.

Both Rully and Jojo Tampos were taken into the custody of the Tagbilaran police while charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and physical injuries were filed today against the truck’s driver. (Allen Doydora)
